Romans 15:14 And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full

of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.

1. What does the word "admonish" mean?

noutheteoµ, means to put in mind; it is instruction, warning, and

correction based on God’s Word.

2. What enables person to admonish another believer? Rom 14:15

a. Full of goodness - Mt 7:3-5 We must examine and correct ourselves before

correcting others. Gal 6:1 says we correct others in a spirit of meekness and

humility, realizing it is only the enablement of God that allows us to walk

aright.

b. Complete in knowledge - Col 3:16 – Admonishment comes from the Word

within our hearts, and is a part of body life. We are to admonish others based

on God’s Word, not our opinions and ideas of what is right and wrong.

3. How does the command to "accept one another" relate to this command to "admonish

one another? Although we are to accept one another, we are not to accept wrong

behavior in others. We accept and love our children, but do not accept everything

they do.

4. Is admonition just something for church leaders to do?

Eph 6:4; I Thess 5:12, 14; Mt 18:15 – Parents are commanded to do this, as are

church members. If a person sins against you, you are to go to them.

5. What is the goal in admonition?

a. Not to shame I Cor 4:14

b. To make more like Christ Col 1:28,29

6. What is our attitude to be toward the person we are admonishing?

Acts 20:31; I Thess 2:11,12; I Cor 4:14

It must be done in deep concern and love. It should be personal and intimate

It must come from pure motives

7. What should be our attitude toward the one who corrects us?

Prov 27:5,6 – Gratitude for the love expressed. If you love someone, you will

admonish them.

Ps 141:5 – We should be thankful for the correction that comes our way from those

who love us.

8. What is the church to do with those who are in error? Titus 3:10

They are to be warned, and then rejected if not repentant.

9. Is there ever a place for public correction in the church?

Gal 2:14 – Paul did not hesitate to publicly correct the apostle Peter.

I Tim 5:19 – public correction is generally directed toward leaders.
